Germany: Meeting Focuses on Expanding Scientific Cooperation

The official visit of the delegation headed by the RA Acting Minister of Education and Science, Arayik Harutyunyan, to Germany is underway. The Acting Minister Harutyunyan has met with the State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of the Federal Republic of Germany, Georg Schütte.
Extending his gratitude for the meeting, Arayik Harutyunyan has noted that after the visit of the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Angela Merkel, to Armenia, additional opportunities for the development of joint projects have been created. Particularly, during the meeting with the Chancellor, as the Minister has mentioned, the opportunities for expanding the Armenian-German scientific cooperation, as well as the matter of opening a TUMO branch in Germany were discussed. Referring to the educational reforms being implemented in Armenia, the Acting Minister of Education and Science, Arayik Harutyunyan, has explained, that, nowadays, it is planned to launch the development of the large-scale project of reforms in science of the Republic of Armenia. Concurrently, discussions have been held with the EU Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Carlos Moedas. In this context, the Parties have cited the cooperation in education between Armenia and Germany. The RA Deputy Chairman of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science, a member of the delegation, V. Sahakyan, has presented the projects that are being implemented in the scope of the bilateral scientific cooperation. It has also been noted, that there are good disciplines of cooperation in natural science, especially in physics, that should be improved, including technical sciences as well and developing joint projects not only with TUMO’s programs, but also with those of Armath Engineering Laboratory. G. Schütte has also highlighted the importance of augmenting the bilateral scientific cooperation, stressing that the basis for such collaboration is the one-to-one contacts and relationships between scientists. He has added, that he has met with many Armenian scientists during his working activities and is impressed with their activities. The RA Acting Minister, Arayik Harutyunyan, and the State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of the Federal Republic of Germany, Georg Schütte, have agreed to spare no effort to strengthen and develop scientific affinity between Armenia and Germany.
