Today, in the Ministry of Education and Science, prizes have been awarded to contestants who won first prize as “The best teacher of the year”, “the best educator of the year”, “the best principal of the year”. The acting Minister of Education and Science, in lieu of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, handed the prizes over to the much deserved winners. In his welcoming speech, Mr Arayik Harutyunyan, noted that such rewards were allocated during the Teachers’ Day celebration in October, but due to unforeseen circumstances (the passing away of Charles Aznavour) it has been delayed.
The acting Minister of Education and Science has observed that the Teachers’ Day is an important event for the Ministry from the standpoint of teachers’ assessment and appreciation.
“After the revolution, we have been discussing whether or not the Award Ceremony and Contests are a solution to problems that are in the radar of the Ministry of Education and Science. We believe celebrating Teachers’ Day is very important because we are obliged to appreciate the reputation and prestige of a teacher.
The teacher and the Principal are the most important partners for us in implementing educational programs at school. Educational programs are simply not feasible without the help of a teacher and a Principal and without their active collaboration.
In order to maintain an atmosphere where schools will educate future citizens to be free thinkers, analytical scholars, and questioning pupils, the RA Ministry of Education and Science will spare no effort”- in his speech has noted Arayik Harutyunyan.
The acting RA Minister of Defense, Davit Tonoyan, has been present at the ceremony. He has awarded prizes, on behalf of the Defense Department, to the teachers of the best soldiers from the Military units of Duty. The acting Minister of Defense, Davit Tonoyan, has noted in his congratulatory speech that teachers of the best soldiers who were traditionally awarded by the Ministry of Defense, will henceforth be jointly awarded by both ministries for all teachers. “We consider education, defense and upbringing in a joint effort. It is also due to the education and upbringing of a school and a teacher that we have soldiers, who defend our country’s borders and are responsible for the security of the RA by risking their lives”- put this at the end Davit Tonoyan.
It should be mentioned that “The best teacher of the year” award has gone to Narine Mesropyan, a teacher of the school N2 named after S. Shahaziz in Ashtarak in the Aragatsotn province; “The best educator of the year” to Gohar Arshakyan, educator of the kindergarten named after Araqs Muradyan in Ashtarak in the Aragatsotn province.
