Critical Issues Concerning Higher Education are in the Midst of Discussions

The Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia, Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, with a delegation headed by the Minister of Healthcare, Arsen Torosyan, had a work related trip to the Republic of Georgia from August 5-6. 

During the visit, Deputy Minister Hovhannes Hovhannisyan met with the Department head of Higher Education and Science Development, Alexander Tevzadze and discussed issues connected to the development of higher education. The Georgian official presented reforms both in the higher education and sciences and governing bodies stating that at the moment discussions are being held of unifying a few of those governing bodies. Moreover, the ministers discussed the importance of partnership between the two countries in the topic of higher education. The sides also touched upon the possibilities of joint research projects, as well as on a number of issues related to the PhD. Georgia, like, Armenia is a part of the Horizon 2020 EU program and has nearly the same issues related to applicants and grants. Then delegates mentioned that, within this context, it would be mutually beneficial to apply for programs together.

They also discussed matters connected to the accreditation of HEIs, mobility and quality assurance. An agreement also reached for future cooperation.

The Deputy Minister also visited the international medical school in Tbilisi (New Vision University) which aims at accepting students from overseas and work for an international education market which is also a promising outlook for Armenia.
