2018-07-02
At the Armenian State Pedagogical University under the direction of Khachatur Abovyan, implemented a traditional training program for Diaspora Armenian Teachers. With more than sixty teachers from sixteen different countries in attendance.
The Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the RA, Hovhannes Hovhannisyan welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of schools in the Diaspora. Then he added, " In new Armenia, the teachers should have improved roles. While I was in the Armenian Schools of Lebanon, I have the excitement that was there for a better Armenia. You are fortunate to be here in the new Armenia where you will experience something different than other participants of the program did in the previous years." Afterward the Deputy Minister mentioned about how symbolic this moment is that most of the participants of the program consisted of Armenian language and literature teachers. He then went to say, " The biggest challenge in the diaspora is the struggle to keep its Armenian Identity. That challenge is much larger in Russia, US and in European Countries where second and third generation Armenians do not speak Armenian. The problem can be remedied with the help of teachers, the government of Armenia and of coarse with the help of all Armenians. Indeed the diaspora is significant to Armenia but, at the same time, Armenian Diaspora will not exist without Armenia."
The participants were also welcomed by the Rector of Armenian State Pedegocial University R. Mizrakhanyan, Director of History Institute in National Academy of Science of the RA, A. Melkonyan, Archbishop Ter Natan holy Hovahannisyan, and the correspondent of National Academy of Science of the RA, A. Dolukhanyan.
The training program is sponsored by the government of the Republic of Armenia, and will end on July 27th, 2018.
