“Antares” publishing house, with the support of RA Ministry of Education and Science, RA Ministry of Culture, dasaran.am and Armenian Cultural Foundation, has held the republican Reading Olympiad this year as well. The Olympiad included 6th grade pupils from schools of Yerevan and all provinces of Armenia.
Arayik Harutyunyan, RA Minister of Education and Science, congratulated the winners and their parents and mentioned that reading should be at the center of attention and it should be encouraged. Arayik Harutyunyan, thanking the organizations that according to him encourage reading at these difficult times, mentioned, “Unfortunately, children do not read much nowadays. In this respect, all of us, including the Ministry of Education and Science, various non-governmental organizations and companies, should take certain steps. We are now discussing a series of programs to keep children away from low quality soap operas and spending much time on social networks, and in those programs, reading is quite important. We urge parents to support us by giving children books and helping them spend their time more productively.” The minister also urged the children to pay much attention to programs encouraging reading, which, according to him, would be numerous shortly.
It is worth mentioning that the Olympiad included school, regional and republican stages. 40 pupils participated in the final stage receiving numerous awards today.
