Arayik Harutyunyan receives UNDP Resident Representative for the Republic of Armenia

Arayik Harutyunyan, RA Minister of Education and Science, received UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative for the Republic of Armenia Shombi Sharp.
The Minister of Education and Science touched upon the existing cooperation with UN various programs in the educational sphere and stressed the importance of constructive dialogue aimed at the development of that cooperation.
The educational reforms including all levels of education, from general to higher, were at the core of the meeting. Referring to the issue of educational depoliticization Arayik Harutyunyan mentioned that the increase of the teacher’s reputation and the involvement of the parent community would be highlighted in the general educational reforms. The Minister of Education and Science emphasized the issue of enhancing the education and labor market relations in the secondary vocational (VET) and higher educational levels. Arayik Harutyunyan mentioned, “The development of the VET sector is quite important for us, since it will reduce the pressure on the high school and university system”.
The UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Shombi Sharp welcomed the reforms initiated by the new authorities of education and expressed his willingness in deepening their cooperation.
A number of cooperative issues as well as legislative reforms aimed at the educational ones were also discussed during the meeting.
