“Higher Educational Institutions Should also Become Research Centers”, A. Harutyunyan

Today, the "SPORTS CAB" Research and Innovation Center, equipped with the latest facilities, was opened at the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, which was established by the "Education Improvement" Credit Program, implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science, "Center for Educational Programs" PIU, within the framework of the Innovation Competitiveness Foundation “ Modernization and Improvement of Vocational Education in Physical Culture and Sports” grant program.
RA Minister of Education and Science Arayik Harutyunyan , RA Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Levon Vahradyan, representatives of other public bodies and the office of the World Bank in Armenia participated in the opening ceremony of the center.
“This is what the new Government and the new leadership of Ministry of education and Science need, that is universities should also turn into research centers. These equipments allow to examine the athlete with different parameters, make adjustments and improve their results” RA Minister of Education and Science Arayik Harutyunyan shared his impressions in the opening ceremony of the center stressing that the latter would help improve the athletes’ athletic abilities and the ratings of universities. At the request of journalists, Arayik Harutyunyan also discussed the problems of teaching "Physical Culture" in public schools. "A working group has been set up to discuss different examples of physical education development since theses are somewhat ineffective today, including the corresponding strength of the schools or their absence.Today, the Government takes stock of all its facilities: sports arenas, sports auditoriums, and so on to offer optimal options, using the resources that the community may already provide, "said the Minister, adding that he would also encourage the creation of sports clubs. It should be noted that the opening of the ‘SPORTS CAB’ center is the result of the continuity of the institute’s policy, i.e. modernizing and improving scientific researches in “Physical Culture”, sports, and sports medicine in regards to initial and target guidelines. The project assumes a new example of cooperation with sports federations, collective teams, sports and other circles, which will give an exceptional opportunity on research, re-visit athletes’ fitness and strength prior to the most important sports activities . The RA Minister of Education and Science Arayik Harutyunayn met with the University’s professors. The Minister attached importance to the issue of making universities international, encouraging foreign student body enrollment. According to the Minister, Higher Educational Institutions in Armenia can offer such opportunities. At the meeting, they also discussed the accreditation process of universities, quality assurance of research in Higher Educational Institutions and some other issues related to teachers who are not qualified to teaching “Physical Culture” in educational institutions.
