The effectiveness of reforms at the other levels of education depends on the success of general education, says Arayik Harutyunyan

Arayik Harutyunyan, RA Minister of Education and Science, received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Armenia Judith Margaret Farnworth. The minister welcomed the guest and stressed the importance of the programs implemented with international organizations within the educational system and assured that these programs would be continuous contributing to the deepening and development of the Armenian-British relations. Presenting the directions of educational reforms the Minister of Education and Science mainly touched upon the sphere of general education. Arayik Harutyunyan mentioned, ''We give priority to general education, since the effectiveness of reforms at other levels of education depends on the success of this field''. He expressed his concern referring the issue of schools with few pupils emphasizing that currently various projects are being discussed, one of which is the model of educational and cultural centers in rural communities. Referring to the issue of the development of teaching foreign languages the Minister of Education and Science highlighted the support of the British Embassy and the British Council aimed at increasing the effectiveness of teaching English at comprehensive schools, teacher trainings and taking practical steps to spread and develop English.
Ambassador Farnworth, in her turn, thanked the minister for the cooperation in the education sector and assured, that the embassy would take an active part in enhancing cooperation at different levels of the education system and implementing targeted projects. Out of all the cooperation programs Ambassador Farnworth paid particular attention to the program of English coteries in different regions of Armenia and mentioned the need to increase the effectiveness of the education management system.
During the meeting the parties discussed a range of issues related to the further cooperation.
